Anthropologie Offers Unique Designs

Anthropologie was founded in 1992 by Richard Hayne and was designed to follow the customers of its parent company, Urban Outfitters, into the next phase of their lives.  While Urban Outfitters is hip and trendy, Anthropologie is geared toward affluent, sophisticated women in their 30's and 40's who want unique designs.  Rather than selling products, Anthropologie focuses on selling a lifestyle and intentionally avoids advertising, focusing on the shopping experience as a whole.  In the book Bobos of Paradise, David Brooks stated that Anthropologie was the “apothesis” of bourgeois bohemian which aptly describes the clothing offered at this retailer.  Most Anthropologie stores are on streets or in open air centers and there are over 90 stores in 24 states and the District of Columbia.  Although the brand does little advertising, it stands for almost half of Urban Outfitters' annual income.

The petite clothing at Anthropologie is one-of-a-kind and eclectic.  Known for their attention to detail and fine craftsmanship, many articles of clothing feature embroidery, ribbons, lace, crocheting and embellishments.  The Anthropologie inventory is constantly changing to encourage personal discovery and keep the selections unusual.  Because the choices offered by Anthropologie are so unique, they are often rather pricey and appeal to the women who is more style-conscious than budget-conscious.

Petite Tops

The exquisite selection of tops at Anthropologie include button up shirts, pullovers and tiebacks in vintage styles made from materials such as nylon, rayon, silk, lycra and cotton with details such as embroidery and ribbons.  Soft cotton tees are available with embellishments or without in crew neck, v-neck and square neck designs with short and long sleeves.  The sweaters are incredibly detailed and beautiful in styles such as pullover, wraps, turtleneck and corset with long and short sleeves.  Many of the sweaters are crocheted with eye-catching patterns that will make any petite stand out in a crowd.
